Otaku Acoustic - Guren no Yumiya (Attack on Titan 1st Opening Theme Acoustic Cover) Full Band

Here's our cover / rendition of the opening theme song to Attack on Titan called "Guren no Yumiya", originally by Linked Horizon. In this video, we're a full band. This was recorded during one of our practice sessions and some of us are still learning our new parts.

Otaku Acoustic - A Cruel Angel's Thesis (Neon Genesis Evangelion Opening Theme Acoustic Cover) Full Band

Introducing our new members to the band:

- Joey Barchas: Bass
- Dustin Ladd: Drums / Percussions

Here's another recording of our acoustic cover of the song "A Cruel Angel's Thesis", the opening theme to the classic anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. This time, with the whole band.

In this recording, the band is in "Acoustic Mode", in which we are still using acoustic instruments (except for the bass). We have another mode, which could very well change our band name, since it isn't acoustic. More on this later....

Otaku Acoustic - The WORLD (Death Note 1st Opening Theme - Acoustic Cover)

Here's our acoustic cover of "The WORLD", originally by Nightmare. It is very risky for us to be doing acoustic covers of such songs with intense electric guitars, so I hope you like our rendition of it.

Yes, that's a Death Note that Melanie is holding. :) The lyrics were not in there. Just your names!

Otaku Acoustic - Snow Fairy (Fairy Tail Opening Theme Song #1 - Acoustic Cover)

This is our short acoustic cover of Fairy Tail's first opening theme song "Snow Fairy". Many people have suggested us to do this song, even though Melanie is the only one in the group that has seen the show.

Otaku Acoustic - Sorairo Days (Gurren Lagann Opening Theme - Acoustic Cover

This is our acoustic rendition to "Sorairo Days", the opening theme song to the anime series Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

At first, we didn't know if it was possible to do an acoustic cover of this song. And for a while, we joked around about covering this, even only knowing the very few bars of it's intro and verse. But eventually, we came up with a way to cover it. I mean, WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE? lol

Otaku Acoustic - Sakura Kiss (Ouran High School Host Club Opening Theme - Acoustic Cover)

Here's our cover of the English verson to "Sakura Kiss", the opening theme song to the English dubbed version of the anime show Ouran High School Host Club. It is almost rare that we perform this song live or spontaneously at anime conventions. But we will do it if only when a large group of Ouran Highschool Host Club cosplayers are nearby.

Otaku Acoustic - Want You Gone (Portal 2 Ending Theme - Acoustic Cover)

Well here we are again. It's always such a pleasure!

Here's a video game music acoustic cover: "Want You Gone" from Portal 2. Written by Jonathan Coulton, and performed in the game's ending credits by GLaDOS, our cover mixes a little bit of both styles in rhythm and singing. Apprantly, when we play this song live at conventions, the audience enjoy singing along to this as much as they do when singing along to Still Alive from the first game.

Present Day... Present Time... HAHAH!!!

Here's our acoustic cover of "Duvet", originally by Bôa. This is the opening theme song to the anime show "Serial Experiments: LAIN", a classic series that we have a hard time understanding until this day. lol

Otaku Acoustic - Life Is A Boat (Bleach Ending Song #1 - Acoustic Cover)

Here's our acoustic cover / rendition of "Life Is A Boat" by Rie Fu, the first ending theme song of the anime show Bleach. In our version, we experimented on tempo changes and loudness of the guitar strumming, which makes it very different from the original version. We hope you like this version...

Otaku Acoustic - Paper Moon (Acoustic Rendition) - Soul Eater 2nd Opening Theme

This is our cover of the song "Paper Moon", the 2nd opening theme song to the anime show Soul Eater. This was one of the most suggested songs by friends and convention attendees, so we made an effort to cover this song, despite the difficulty figuring out how to come up with an acoustic rendition for it.

Otaku Acoustic - Guren no Yumiya (Acoustic Rendition) - Attack on Titan 1st Opening Theme

Here's our cover / rendition of the opening theme song to Attack on Titan called "Guren no Yumiya", originally by Linked Horizon. We once thought it would be impossible to do this song, but due to the amount of requests we got to do a cover of this song, we did it anyway.

As time goes by, our cover version of this song has improved, especially after this video was already recorded.

Otaku Acoustic - Pokemon Theme Song (Acoustic Cover) Live at A-Kon 25, Dallas, TX

More Live footages of us at A-Kon 25, Dallas, TX! The video is edited to contain two different sets of Special Event performances: Anatole Sculpture Park (Saturday, June 7, 2014) and Gossip Bar area (Sunday, June 8, 2014).

This is that one cover that we have that gets the many convention goers singing out loud! Here's our cover of the famous Pokemon Theme Song!

Pokemon Theme Song - Live at A-Kon 25, Dallas, TX

This song is usually our "finale". Everyone who regularly comes to see us play or hangs out with us know that before we end our performances, this song will be played. It is usually cued by us playing our Sailor Moon cover. Our fans and friends get the pattern.

Special Thanks to Jesus Limon at A Dream Productions for shooting the outdoors part of this video during our Special Events Set 1! Check them out: https://www.youtube.com/user/ADreamProductionFilm

Special Thanks to David Campos at 8Vigilantes for shooting the indoors part of this video during our Special Events Set 3! Check out his channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/eightvigilantes

Unfortunately, we don't have a footage of the second set, which took place at the second floor of the Mezzanine Level, Tower Area of the Hilton Anatole. That would have made an awesome mashup video! Otaku Acoustic - My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Opening Theme (Acoustic Cover, TV Size)

People used to dare us to do this song when we started this music project... And so we did it!

Here's our acoustic cover of the TV opening theme song to "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic"!  We also did this song because our daughter smiles and loudly sings along with us when she hears us play this song.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (Opening Theme Song, TV Size)

Our experience with performing this song live at conventions can be a little iffy and we try to play this song sparingly. We've used this song to drive away even the toughest of security guards at conventions! But for every time we play this song, the MLP:FIM fans begin to stand out from the crowd. Yes, our fellow Bronies! ^_^

Otaku Acoustic - Before My Body Is Dry (Kill La Kill battle cry, Acoustic Rendition) - Live at A-Kon 25

This is our "prototype" acoustic rendition to the song "Before My Body Is Dry (a.k.a. Don't Lose Your Way)" from the over-the-top anime madness called Kill La Kill. We have a lot of different renditions to this song. But during our first Special Event performance at A-Kon 25, Dallas, TX., we decided to make an attempt to stick to the original rhythm while cutting out several instrumental parts of the original version to keep it short..

Otaku Acoustic - Highschool of the Dead (Opening Theme Acoustic Cover)

First off, we would like to apologize for the delays on the updates on this website. As you might know, this entry is backdated from the day we are posting this (July 27). Also, for our YouTube subscribers, sorry for missing two weekends worth of uploads. It took us two weeks to recover from the festivities at A-Kon 25. :)

Here's our cover of the opening theme song to the anime show Highschool of the Dead, originally by Kishida Kyoudan & The Akeboshi Rockets. It was not easy to come up with an acoustic rendition to this song, because of it's rockin', electric guitar nature. This is the best we can come up with, considering that we don't have another guitarist, or a drummer and a bass player. However, this seems to be another favorite acoustic cover by our audiences at various conventions.

Otaku Acoustic - I'm Alive (Becca Acoustic Cover) - Black Butler Ending Theme

Here's our acoustic cover of the ending theme to the first half of Black Butler season 1. It is called "I'm Alive" by Becca. We're quite a fan of the show. Around the time we started Otaku Acoustic, this was the one we had a little bit of trouble covering.

Otaku Acoustic - The Light Before We Land (Acoustic Cover) - Gunslinger Girl (Opening Theme)

This is the very first cover song we learned when we started Otaku Acoustic. This video is also a redux, since we do have a video of us playing this song back in the Summer of 2012.

Otaku Acoustic - Kiss Me (Japanese Version) - Sixpence None the Richer Acoustic Cover

No, this is not an anime song, and we are well aware of it. We decided to cover the Japanese version of Sixpence None The Richer's song "Kiss Me" because we thought it would be fun. Every time we play this song live at anime conventions, people start to sing along with us, until we start singing the Japanese parts. The confusion on people's faces are fun! :p jk

Otaku Acoustic - The Real Folk Blues (Acoustic Cover) - Cowboy Bebop (Ending Theme Song)

Here's our acoustic (and slightly distorted) cover of "The Real Folk Blues", the ending song to the classic, yet timeless anime show "Cowboy Bebop".

The Real Folk Blues (acoustic cover) - Cowboy Bebop (Ending Theme Song)

This is the second time we've actually recorded this song. Around the time Otaku Acoustic started performing live at anime conventions, we made attempts to record our progress. The next video below is unlisted on YouTube, but you'll get to see it here on our official blog (just don't share it).

Otaku Acoustic - Bit by Bit, I'm Falling Under Your Spell (acoustic cover) - Dragon Ball GT (English Dub Opening Theme Song)

This is our acoustic cover / rendition of "Bit by Bit, I'm Falling Under Your Spell", the English version of the opening song to the anime show Dragon Ball GT.

Bit by Bit, I'm Falling Under Your Spell (acoustic cover) - Dragon Ball GT (English Dub Opening Theme Song)

Before we came up with an acoustic version to this song, a friend of ours named Jesse asked us if we could cover this song for his birthday. We're not the biggest Dragon Ball fans, but the song sounded fairly easy enough to do. While learning the music to the song, we contemplated on whether we should learn and perform the song in Japanese or in English. For now, we are performing this live in English, but Melanie is slowly learning the Japanese and even the Spanish version of this song.

Otaku Acoustic - Bouken Desho Desho? (Acoustic Cover) - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya season 1 opening theme.

Just uploaded another acoustic cover video on YouTube: The opening song to the first season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It's called "Bouken Desho Desho?"

Bouken Desho Desho? (acoustic cover) - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Season 1 Opening Theme)

We're getting a kick out of making these videos, now that we have Sony Vegas Pro 11. This was also shot last week, on April 25, 2014, the same night we shot the opening theme song to "Neon Genesis Evangelion".

Otaku Acoustic - A Cruel Angel's Thesis (acoustic cover) - Neon Genesis Evangelion opening theme

Here's our cover of "A Cruel Angel's Thesis", the opening theme song to the anime show Neon Genesis Evangelion! This is our first time using Sony Vegas Pro 11 to edit and process our videos prior to posting them on YouTube. We hope you like it!

A Cruel Angel's Thesis (acoustic cover) - Neon Genesis Evangelion OP

I know it has been over 11 months since we recorded a video at home. We actually recorded three more other songs after shooting this. We plan to post one video each Saturday.

Facebook Page friends and fans will not get this site-only exclusive info, but the next videos we will be uploading are:
  • Bouken Desho Desho (acoustic cover) - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
    (season 1 opening theme).
  • Bit by Bit, I'm Falling Under Your Spell (acoustic cover) - Dragon Ball GT opening theme.

Cosplay Day Out 2014; Egg Rolls, Music, and Spontaneous Sing-A-Longs...

We had a blast playing our music for everyone who attended COSPLAY DAY OUT 2014! We met a lot of wonderful cosplayers and several new friends.

Before we arrived at Cosplay Day Out, we stopped by Godo's Bakery & Restaurant and ordered 200 bite-sized egg rolls to provide snacks for the attendees. This is now a part of CDO's tradition on behalf of Otaku Acoustic, because in many ways, the event itself helps promote us by letting us provide musical entertainment for everyone.

Even though we had every chance to play our whole list of 26 songs, I limited our selection to probably about 7. We only played the songs that are known to get the crowd's attention, such as the Pokemon theme, Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and the newest addition to our cover song list: Sakura Kiss (opening theme for the anime series Ouran High School Host Club).

We also offered to provide the event coordinator our equipment to host their Cosplay Contest. But what I didn't know was, we were going to be hosting the contest. Luckily, our friend Xeric Castillo was there. When I asked him if he could announce the names of the cosplayers competing in the contest, he agreed without hesitation. Who would've thought he was actually an excellent host. He's normally quiet.

While the judges of the cosplay contest was interviewing the cosplayers, we decided to entertain the contestants with random songs and throughout the judging phase, we were all just singing along to sing-a-long songs like Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and Sublime's What I Got, etc. This was so much fun!

Thanks to all of you who hung out with us and sang along. We look forward to seeing you again at conventions, meetups, and other anime / cosplay related events!

Otaku Acoustic: Live @ Anime Matsuri 2014

This weekend, my music project "Otaku Acoustic" attended Anime Matsuri 2014 at the George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, TX. There, we played over 25 anime cover songs, most of which were songs we recently just learned.

Here's a very short clip of us playing the "Pokemon Theme" with the crowd singing along:

Otaku Acoustic - Pokemon Theme (LIVE @ Anime Matsuri 2014, Houston, TX)
Video provided by AAC Studios

We had lots of fun playing for the anime convention crowd, probably the most fun we've had so far! The convention staff was very accommodating to us, since we were granted permission by the convention chair a week prior to the event. And as always, the people that attend Anime Matsuri are always welcoming to new ideas.

Of course, we are very thankful to all those who left us tips and gave us compliments and constructive criticism. We're always open to suggestions and song ideas.

Just a Few Photos of Us at Anime Matsuri 2014

Whenever we play our music at any anime convention, we always see a lot of people taking pictures of us. Most of them are also record videos of us with their phones as well. We totally do not have a problem with that, and as a matter of fact, we encourage it! The only thing that we ask is if they can tag us on Facebook or YouTube by using the words "Otaku Acoustic" or "OtakuAcoustic".

Sadly, that is not the case. They forget to tag us. We almost never see pictures of us on Facebook. We almost never find any video clips of us on YouTube.

But every once in a blue moon, a few of our friends will run into pictures or videos of us and eventually, we get notified. It gives us a lot of excitement when that happens. No matter the quality of the photos or videos, we would normally go out of our way to thank those who took pictures or videos of us.

These photos were taken by friends who happen to be passing by during our performance at the second floor of the convention center.

Saturday, March 15, 2014: The following photos were taken by our friend Jade Killebrew.
